WebNews July 2017
Too late for the last WebNews was that the Society had been awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service. This will be presented to representatives of the Society on 5th July in London.
There is still no news of the lease from TW but we are discussing what we see as unnecessary restrictions.
Some new (to us) wagons have been delivered.
Some have been left in Hyde’s Field as a reminder that we are coming. Others are at Kempton. Two will be cut down and used as bolsters for transporting track panels. Others may be used as spare parts for other wagons we already have.
A new railway sign is to be erected at the main gate.
Although passenger numbers are similar to last year, they are less that we hoped.
The extension is progressing slower than we hoped with only 2 panels down. There were problems with the levels and more digging was necessary. Then it was alternately hot and wet – neither good for attracting volunteers. However, under construction is a device for transporting whole panels to the railhead; more later when it has been tried out.
Other work done recently include a brick bar-be-cue and the start of a patio area outside the ticket office. Work has started on fitting proper gates at the end of the loading siding.
Our diesel, Spelthorne, has been under repair to cure a hydraulic leak and is now having a cab fitted.
We hope to be present at the following events:-
Saturday, 8th July Black Cherry Fair, Chertsey Under consideration – Douglas will need help.
Saturday, 22nd July Hersham Village Fair Unknown event, Douglas will be away.
Sunday, 6th August Bedfont Park Country Fair Still investigating – but the location is good.
